About the Programme/Event

Forget your age and live your life as an awesome later life learner. Join us in this fun, witty and interactive session where four seniors participants from SMS Knowledge Café share how learning can happen during conversations with fellow seniors!


SMS (Seniors-Meet-Seniors) Knowledge Café is a place where people can meet seniors to have fun and productive conversations to learn from each other and to make a better sense of living in an urban community. The objective of the SMS Knowledge Café is to encourage peer-led discussion among seniors and learning in small groups for seniors.


About the speakers


Mr. Chan Beng An, retired since 2014, had served in Singapore Air Defence Command 72 to 78, and had worked in engineering companies Watt & Akkermans, ASEA Brown Boveri AB, ST Engineering. His hobbies include Wushu, Chinese Calligraphy, watching movies, and ‘people watching’.


After working full-time in several MNCs for more than 15 years, Ms. Jane Quah decided to devote her time fully to bringing up her two children. She started pursuing her passions after her children became working adults. Some of those passions include travelling, shopping, Zumba, ballroom and social dancing, golfing, wine, and dine sessions.


Mr. S. Chandran worked in a regional sales manager capacity for 43 years for different medical companies, before retiring in July 2016.


Mr. Thomas Kuan is the Founder of U 3rd Age (University of the Third Age). He is currently the President East Asia Federation for Adult Education (EAFAE) and the Treasurer of PIMA (Promoting, Interrogating & Mobilising Adult Learning & Education). He was inducted as a Fellow of Beta Phi International Literary Society (USA) in 2014. He is a Certified Qigong Trainer of Meimen Qigong Culture Center, Taiwan (2015).

Time of Your Life Celebration 2020

National Library Board (NLB), in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is pleased to announce the Time of Your Life Celebration 2020, in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of the Gerontology Programme of SUSS. This is a series of exciting events such as interactive talks and panel discussions to engage our community to exchange ideas on gerontology related topics.

Despite the challenges of COVID-19, what motivated them to move their regular sessions onto digital platforms and continue to pursue their passions? Find out from our dedicated facilitators of the Heartlands Book Club, IT Talks, Tampines Uke Jammers, and the Seniors-Meet-Seniors Knowledge Café!
